Episode Recap

Lee Gun (Jang Hyuk) wakes up after fainting only to have amnesia specifically covering the past three months. As a result, Gun has forgotten that his ex-girlfriend, Nam Se Ra (Wang Ji Won) left him for her ballet career, and Kim Mi Young (Jang Na Ra), the woman he refers to as “Dog Ring”, is his wife and pregnant with his child.

Doctor Octopus advises everyone to go along with Gun’s memory loss in order to prevent trauma, and Se Ra is happy to comply. Mi Young is cooperative in spite of the heartbreak and humiliation of being identified as Gun’s personal assistant. Yet, thanks to the internet, Gun quickly learns about his contract marriage to Mi Young, and is a jerk about it. Daniel (Choi Jin Hyuk) just looks exasperated with the entire situation, and does not hesitate to remind Gun that he decided to work with his company to get closer to his wife, Mi Young.

Fortunately for Mi Young and the viewers, Gun finds the lollipop that she gave him, and the memories of his time with Mi Young come flooding back, along with Se Ra’s failure to show up for his marriage proposal. Gun abandons Se Ra, telling her that he felt something was missing from his life.

The final scene returns to the beginning of the episode, with Gun driving, distracted and weeping.

Only 만: Well, this wasn’t one of my favourite episodes. I was too nervous from watching Gun drive in that state to really enjoy myself.

Junggugeo Kaenada 중국어 캐나다: I just can’t believe they introduced the standard amnesia plot line, then solved it within the same episode.

만: I’m glad they didn’t drag it out, though. Why they bothered with it in the first place is beyond me. Just to make Se Ra look pitiful? For Mi Young to suffer a little bit? To show Gun weeping?

중국어 캐나다: I don’t know. The amazing thing is that everyone had the same hang dog expression on their face throughout this episode.

만: Though Daniel looked really good despite his sad face, and at least, Gun’s laugh made an appearance. But, otherwise, it was positively dreary.

중국어 캐나다: Dreary, and unflattering to both Se Ra and Mi Young. Se Ra was at her most desperate in this episode, resorting to underhanded methods to keep Gun all to herself. When her bitchy mother smacked her kimbap onto the floor, and pointed out that she was giving up her ballet career for a married man, I had to agree with mom. Meanwhile, Mi Young is fading further and further into the wallpaper. I don’t know how much more of her passivity I can take.

만: I’m at my limit of watching Mi Young quietly suffering. I’m trying to be patient, but watching her let somebody else take over Gun’s care wasn’t my favourite moment with Mi Young. Nor did I enjoy Se Ra’s sad transformation. That said, I’m assuming some kind of change is coming in the next episode.

중국어 캐나다: The plot goes at such a quick pace, and yet, Mi Young appears to be at a standstill. She promised Gun that she would grow a backbone. Though, perhaps arrested development is better than the devolution of Se Ra from tomboy ballerina to weepy and desperate. Speaking of arrested development, Daniel has not progressed past patient standby for Mi Young.

만: Daniel seems to be doing nothing this episode, but looking worried. I was hoping he wasn’t going to abruptly transition into a romantic possibility, so I’m glad it didn’t go there, but then, he’s not left with much to do. Gun’s amnesia pretty much brought the actual plot to a grinding halt, because everything had to wait until he regained his memory. But, we’re ranting again. It’s not one of my favourite episodes, but let’s try to think of something positive.

중국어 캐나다: Let’s not, and look hopefully toward the future instead. Episode 12 is just around the corner.

  1. Mmm guys today I seriously disagree with you :p Its so much that it would be too long for me to explain why. But anyway, Daniel is definitely in love with Mi Young. Not that I care much since I don’t need him as eye candy. He is not even my type tbh. Im happy with Jang Hyuk. I want to share this appreciative post about Mi Young.   2. I meant to say your view of Mi Young :p I think this episode served many purposes. It was life’s way of repairing something that started wrong. Se Ra had been wronged, she was collateral damage to MY and Geon’s bad fate right? Well, she now had a full day with her Geon from three months ago and she blew it somehow. She is a victim of circumstances but she also handled things in her selfish and not smart fashion, pushing Geon further away, It was also a good way to show Geon is now definitely Mi Young’s and it showed that behind the quite and fragile exterior, Mi Young won’t back down. She worried about Geon but she took every opportunity she took to jog his memory. She even confronted Se Ra telling she wants to protect him. Mi Young did not let Se Ra push her away. She was only being careful for Geon’s sake. Se Ra selfish as she is, was making demands from him. Nice way to keep him from stress.

    1. Se Ra’s actions felt totally fitting with what had been established with the character. Her self centeredness was always an issue and a contrast between her, Geon and Mi Young. I only expected her to be smarter. It would’ve been more interesting.

    1. I understand your appreciation for Mi Young’s snail like qualities, but I still find the way Mi Young lets other people bat her around unpleasant to watch. Yes, she did stand up to Se Ra, and I hope she makes a habit of it.

      I’m not happy with what the writers have turned Se Ra into. It was a more interesting dynamic between her, Gun and Mi Young when she was still sympathetic. Though, I don’t think the amnesia gave Se Ra any chance since I doubt her being honest and forthright would have made any difference in what Gun would do once he regained his memories.

      Gun had already chosen to love Mi Young and given up Se Ra before Episode 11. This amnesia plot was redundant and just threw salt on Se Ra’s regret at losing Gun and Mi Young’s interloper status.

      1. Se Ra’s failure to show up in Macau was insensitive. However, she was being forced to choose between an elaborate proposal that was probably not her style, and the chance to do what she has been working her whole life towards.

        I do not understand why Se Ra was forced to make such a choice in the first place. Why can’t she be a ballet dancer and marry Gun, too? Why does Gun seem oblivious to Se Ra’s dream of becoming a prima ballerina?

        It is commendable that the writers made it a hard choice for Se Ra, and she struggled over it. Whether the viewer agrees with her choice or not, I do not think Se Ra was painted simply as a one-dimensional, selfish person.

      2. I never said she was a one dimmensional person. And I don’t consider her self centered because she chose her career. I think we have moved on from that point. She is selfish in general. The way all problems revolve around her own pain. Her lack of empathy for others. Yes she is in pain and I feel sorry for her loneliness and how her mother treats her but I grow impatient for people who can’t see beyond themselves. She shows no empathy for Mi Young as a woman and future mother, ok lets say her jealousy blinds her. But she does fail to see Geon’s need to at least be a good father? She is offended that he went to pre natal classes? Geon did understand her career choice to the point that he waited! And if the Hamo guys had not drugged him he probably would’ve waited more. Does her attitude and words suggest she totally took him for granted? Yes, they do.0

  4. LOL at your Daniel caption “we know how you feel.” You have me trained to look for a perfect caption each recap. I concur this was a “in limbo” episode for our characters. I noted it the worst episode of the series in my review. Enjoy your take everytime.
