We arrived at one humble branch of Taquerias El Farolito with high expectations since the small chain has the reputation of producing one of America’s best burritos. We did, indeed, leave the restaurant happy.
I ordered the Burrito: one soft flour tortilla with rice, beans, tomato, onion, cilantro, and salsa. My meat of choice was cow tongue, which was cooked perfectly tender, and not chewy. The fresh ingredients made a difference in taste, though I think I would have preferred refried beans, because the beans in the burrito were not warm.
My significant other ordered the Super Burrito, which was like the regular version, but with cheese, sour cream, and avocado. The key to the Burrito’s success was the grilled steak; the small chunks were unbelievably flavourful and juicy.
The portions were sizable enough that there were leftovers. I can confirm that Taquerias El Farolito burritos taste good, even cold, 12 hours later.
