“Fated to Love You” Episode 6 recap

The look says it all.

Side dish: Daniel’s suit in the last scene of this episode brought to mind a tablecloth at a restaurant I visited in Milan. Episode Recap

Lee Gun (Jang Hyuk) decides to be nice to his wife, Kim Mi Young (Jang Na Ra) after finding Daniel (Choi Jin Hyuk) hanging out with her, and Mi Young meeting the approval of his family elders. Gun starts by cancelling his sale of Mi Young’s hometown to industrial dump developers, joins her unexpectedly at another prenatal workshop, and lets her sleep in his bed. However, the pinnacle of Gun’s charm offensive is spearheading a karaoke dance party for Mi Young’s mother and a bus load of ahjummas.

Gun still has not notified his girlfriend, Nam Se Ra (Wang Ji Won) about his shotgun wedding. However, shit is about to hit the fan as Se Ra has decided to surprise Gun with an early return to Korea.

Of course, Gun’s amicable relationship with Mi Young cannot last. Gun’s stepmother and half-brother sabotage Gun’s marriage by revealing his sale of Mi Young’s hometown to her via text. Mi Young loses faith in Gun, and Daniel again appears in her moment of need. Just as Gun spots them, Daniel draws Mi Young in for a hug, and shoots lasers from his eyes at Gun. Oh, it’s on, bitch!

Junggugeo Kaenada 중국어 캐나다: Gun had a spectacular change of heart at the beginning of this episode. Do we have Daniel to thank for that?

Only 만: Who knew some good old-fashioned jealousy would prompt such a fun episode?

중국어 캐나다: Yes, episode 6 was spectacular all around. Though, I think we can credit Gun for most of the action, because Mi Young was quite the passive wall flower, aside from that slight face she made when Gun demanded that she stay away from Daniel.

만: It’s true. She couldn’t even get a shower head out of a bath tub without him. On the other hand, Gun was so entertaining that I could forgive Mi Young for her passivity. That karaoke scene was awesome.

중국어 캐나다: When Mi Young was entering the party room, I remember thinking, “That is some fantastic singing.” It was Gun. They both went wild serenading and dancing for a crowd of rambunctious ahjummas. Then, the scene was topped off with poor Gun receiving the love of a mother that he has been sorely missing. You could see Gun virtually melting into the arms of Mi Young’s spunky mother.

만: There were a lot of great scenes in this episode. The gangster-like confrontation between Gun and the president of Dudu Industries was one; the scene with Gun and his doctor was another. Even the sewing scene at the parenting class was pretty funny.

중국어 캐나다: Yes, Gun and his manic laughter were super entertaining. Then, there’s Daniel, who is giving us cute and bitch face in equal measure, with spectacular clothing to match.

만: Daniel’s suit from the last scene was only matched by his bitchy glare at Gun. Actually, Gun had a few gorgeous outfits too, especially that bright orange suit.

중국어 캐나다: Again, the only one who was losing out in that scene was Mi Young: a wallflower in action and appearance. You mentioned that you are hoping for a makeover soon, and though I don’t have high hopes, my eyes are begging for Mi Young to, at least, meet the boys halfway. Maybe, lose the glasses and the pony tail? It is the usual path to suddenly becoming hot.

만: Mi Young needs brighter clothes for sure. That orange suit was crying out for a purple dress to match it; they would have blinded as well as deafened those ahjummas at the wedding party. Actually, now that I think of it, Mi Young did unexpectedly sing and dance in the karaoke scene.

중국어 캐나다: But, that was the highlight of Mi Young’s appearance in this episode. I hope she is more active in the next episode now that she is good and angry at Gun.

만: Indeed. In effect, nothing much happened with the story in this episode between Gun seemingly getting over his anger and Mi Young getting angry at the end. But, more importantly, the insane laugh made a reappearance. Woohoo!

중국어 캐나다: Even better, the meeting of Daniel and Gun bestowed an auditory massage in stereo thanks to their velvety voices. It is one of the side benefits of this growing love triangle. What is your prediction for next week?

만: I predict Mi Young might actually lose her temper. In the meantime, we can just listen to Gun and Daniel fight over her. So soothing!
