Magical Moments Advent Calendar Day 1

Join us as we count down the days to Christmas by unveiling 24 magical Kdrama moments. First up, “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”!

Episode 10 of Sungkyunkwan Scandal

Sungkyunkwan scholar, Lee Sun Joon (Park Yoo Chun) is in a storeroom, rifling through confidential documents. He realizes belatedly that guards are on the hunt for him, so when the storeroom door opens, he is ready for a fight. To his surprise, a frilly, pink gisaeng enters and rushes straight for him. While in a close embrace, the giseang identifies herself as his university roommate, Kim Yoon Hee (Park Min Young). Sun Joon is more disturbed than impressed by Yoon Hee’s convincing disguise, because he believes that she is a man.

When the guards come bursting in, Yoon Hee quickly pushes Sun Joon onto the floor and gets on top. The guards assume that it is a gisaeng entertaining her patron, and quickly leave.

Left alone in the storeroom with Yoon Hee, Sun Joon’s heart is pounding and his hands are shaking. And, as a viewer, it is easy to understand why. Despite the precarious situation Sun Joon and Yoon Hee find themselves in, and the hilarious look of shock and discomfort on the staid Sun Joon’s face, the sexual tension is palpable. The mutual attraction of the two students is barely contained by Sun Joon’s belief that Yoon Hee is a man, and Yoon Hee’s need to maintain the facade in order to stay in school.

Thereafter, Sun Joon is in a constant state of war with himself as he fights his growing attraction towards his best friend. However, this was the scene that set a fuse to the chemistry between the two leads, and made even the swashbuckling second male lead, a clear second choice.

  1. HAHAHA Oh lords I loved this scene too.

And that part where Geol-oh finds her bathing and turns around and hiccups. That cliffhanger + camera work + music were just awesome.
