Years ago, I had an okonomiyaki filled with noodles in Tokyo. Initially, I mocked the idea of carbs with carbs, but one taste made a believer. I have not had a chance to relive this experience until we found a similar dish listed in the menu of Gottsui Restaurant. Needless to say, I insisted that we order it right away.
Sadly, it was not the same. There were barely any noodles stuffed inside the okonomiyaki, which appeared to be dominated by bean sprouts and shredded cabbage. In fact, the entire okonomiyaki was strangely tasteless with only the sauce on top providing any flavour.
The cucumber salad we ordered fared better. It tasted fresh and was perfect for a summer day.
The edamame was stir fried with garlic, which made the dish taste heavy and hearty. However, after repeat exposure, we found it easier to swallow, and easily finished the bowl.
