Tasty Tuesday: Lotus of Siam

Covering the walls of Lotus of Siam are photos of the matriarch of the Northern Thai restaurant posing with a wide array of celebrities. So, its location in a strip mall away from the Las Vegas Strip is no deterrent to diners. We went for lunch, because it was easier to get a table at midday than if we had attempted to have dinner at Lotus of Siam.

Nam Kao Tod (in the featured photo) – I found this dish too salty, and I did not like how insubstantial the crispy rice felt in my mouth. The cabbage that accompanied it was exceedingly bland and therefore, served as too much of a contrast.

Khao Soi (curry noodles) – The flavour of the curry was complex, but the noodles tasted like soggy chips.

Roasted Duck curry – The ingredients floating in the curry tasted like they were added to the sauce rather than cooked in it. The duck and tomatoes did not blend in with their surroundings.

Nam Prik Ong – The red chili dip was my favourite dish of the lunch. A meaty flavour was infused into the sauce, and made it very addictive.

If my review seems overly critical, it is only because my expectations were so high. When celebrities and foodies are singing your praises, I expect to be amazed. While the food tasted fresh, and the flavours were unique, I did not find the majority of the dishes we ordered satisfying.
