Serving an amalgamation of Caribbean and Asian flavours, Patois is very popular with Toronto diners. So, when we got a reservation, we decided to go big and experience the Chef’s Table Feast called the Juiciest Deal the with a party of 10.
Edamame – Dashi Butter, Spicy Furikake, Bonito
Very buttery, but otherwise, unremarkable.
Jamaican Patty Double Down – Two cocktail patties, bacon, Swiss cheese fondue, sriracha
Surprisingly, the patties created a bland sandwich for the cheese and bacon in the middle.
Kimchi Potstickers “Pierogi” Style – Caramelized onions, bacon, kimchi sour cream and scallions
Crunchy Chinese Salad – Napa cabbage, romaine, wonton crisps, spicy plum dressing
O.G. Fried Cauliflower & Watermelon Pickle – Thai basil and sweet sriracha
Who knew that the cauliflower would be a unanimous winner at our table? It was spiced and cooked to perfection.
In the featured photo at the top is the Chinese “Pineapple” Bun Burger – Double smashburger, oyster sauce mayo, hickory sticks, pickled cucumbers
This was my favourite dish of the dinner. I did not believe that the sweetness of the bun would go so well with burger, but it did.
Dirty Fried Rice – Red sausage, sweet soya sauce, Cajun trinity, peas and farm egg
This was not as flavourful as one would expect fried rice to be.
Missing from this gallery is the Juicy Jerk Chicken – Churrasco, rotisserie roasted
This did not have the taste and spiciness of the better jerk sauces that I have had. Still, the chicken was juicy.
French Toast Stuffed w/ Cheesecake, Topped With Mango, and Pineapple Jalapeno Sorbet
Presentation was very playful and inventive, as was the mash up of ingredients. Everything was tasty, but the lack of originality in the flavours was a disappointment.
