Despite straight-laced policeman, Gook Doo’s (Ji Soo) objections, Bong Soon (Park Bo Young) receives the approval of her eager mother to stay overnight in the secret games room of her boss, Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik). The next day, after Bong Soon mistakenly torments an innocent man suspected of stabbing her cop escort, she and Min Hyuk clarify with Gook Doo that the attacker is unrelated to the Dobong-dong cases.
Bong Soon crushes Min Hyuk’s foot to keep her bodyguard position a secret from Gook Doo, necessitating a visit to the hospital where her brother, Bong Ki (An Woo Yeon) is a resident physician. Bong Soon is dismayed to meet Gook Doo’s cellist girlfriend, Jo Hee Ji (Seol In A) who Gook Doo brings to meet with Bong Ki about her hand pain. Hee Ji is immediately smitten with Bong Ki.
Both the gangsters and teen thugs Bong Soon beat up are plotting revenge. She quickly dispatches with the teens, but the gangsters appear to recognize Min Hyuk while spying on Bong Soon. This connection is less surprising after Bong Soon meets Min Hyuk’s thuggish family at a dinner where his father makes him his heir, and Min Hyuk responds with indifference.
Meanwhile, a ballerina gets kidnapped and attacked by the Dobong-dong assailant. Sensing the victim’s distress, Bong Soon has the uneasy feeling that she will soon be called upon to use her powers.
Episode Review
Only is away today, so we’ve drafted in occasional Noona, Jin Joo (진주) to step in.
Junggugeo Kaenada 중국어 캐나다: The cartoon violence of this show continues to be funnier than I usually find that sort of thing to be. In this episode, we were treated to Bong Soon’s accidental beating of the stabbing suspect, and the use of playground equipment to punish the teen thugs. I also laughed out loud at Bong Soon’s mother’s readiness to get her daughter knocked up by Min Hyuk, and Min Hyuk’s appalled expression every time he was faced with the consequences of Bong Soon’s careless use of her powers.
Jin Joo 진주: Bong Soon and Min Hyuk were super cute, especially during their sleepover. I loved how Min Hyuk kept insisting that he needed Bong Soon close by to feel safe, but obviously, he just wants to spend time hanging out with her then sneaks in to sleep beside her. The mystery of the Dobong-dong murder and kidnapping pretty much took a backseat to their interactions.
Junggugeo Kaenada: At times, I forgot that the criminal investigation is still ongoing, because I was so distracted by the antics of Bong Soon, Min Hyuk and Gook Doo. Plus now, we have the added drama of a new love triangle involving Gook Doo, his girlfriend, Hee Ji and Bong Soon’s golden brother, Bong Ki.
Jin Joo: I was surprised at how quickly Hee Ji decided to pursue Bong Ki, with little hesitation or remorse towards Gook Doo. Sure, he may be a neglectful boyfriend, but Hee Ji should break up with Gook Doo before pursuing Bong Ki. It’s funny how his mother immediately senses trouble, which Bong Ki and Bong Soon are oblivious to.
Junggugeo Kaenada: Ha! I love Bong Soon and Bong Ki’s mother. She is shamelessly knowledgeable about naughty behaviour. Thank goodness Bong Soon inherited her mother’s bluntness, if not her smutty sense; Bong Soon really cut to the chase with Gook Doo in confronting him about his mixed messages towards her when he has a girlfriend already.
Jin Joo: Too bad Bong Soon continues to be so useless at crime fighting. She really was no use at reading Min Hyuk’s family members to help figure out who might be behind the threats against him. The obvious culprit is the second oldest brother who pretends to be Min Hyuk’s sole ally.
Junggugeo Kaenada: Bong Soon is pretty clueless in general. She has no idea that Min Hyuk is attracted to her, and just lying about being gay.
Jin Joo: His comment about Gook Doo’s juicy apple bottom was amusing. Though, Bong Soon calling Min Hyuk a degenerate for being attracted to Gook Doo was less so.
Junggugeo Kaenada: We’ve been focused solely on the relationships, and paid no attention to the alarming Dobong-dong attacks nor the cop stabbing that may have been targeted at Min Hyuk. Should we try to make sense of these crimes?
Jin Joo: This episode really didn’t give us much to go on other than the fact that the man who stabbed the cop was not the same man who kidnapped the Dobong-dong victim from the hospital, and he is not skilled with a knife. Since this episode ended with another kidnapping and assault, we’ll probably get more information next episode. I’m just glad we were able to enjoy the more pleasant aspects of this show in this episode.
